A campaign experience

Had a ‘first’ out campaigning yesterday, I rang a doorbell and a very pleasant lady answered the door, I introduced myself and then earnestly set about explaining why she should vote Conservative and for me in particular at the elections on 2nd May.

She listened very politely and then I handed her my leaflet to which she said thank you and can I give you one back! Which she past to me entitled ‘All Suffering SOON TO END!’ from the watchtower organisation for she was a Jehovah’s Witness. I was asked to read page 5 and that was why she would not be voting.

As I walked away I had a read and it spoke of ‘the last days’ of ‘wicked men and imposters have advanced from bad to worse’ and ‘rulership by humans apart from God’; it was an interesting read and thought provoking but it did strike me that whilst democracy is far from perfect we do have to have some system to make day to day decisions and surely electing people to represent us in various forums, parish, District/Borough, County, Westminster etc., must be right irrespective of whatever religious views and convictions you hold.

If you campaign long and often enough you sort of build up a whole raft of doorstep stories about what people say and do, but this was a first for me.

I'm a Conservative politician-lite, I dabble a bit in Party Politics with my main focus of working hard and being a strong voice for my community making sure local government delivers quality services and fellow residents get value for money for their hard earned money they pay in Council tax | Where this Gravatar appears and I am expressing my views or liking something I do so in a personal capacity and does not necessarily reflect the views or policies of Suffolk County Council, Forest Heath District Council, the Conservative Party or come to think of it anyone else | But having said the above at an election time and to stay legal, anything I write is promoted by Lance Stanbury on behalf of Colin Noble, both at West Suffolk Conservative Association, Park Farm Cottage, Fordham St. Genevieve, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk IP28 6TS

Wicked men and imposters? Sounds like a certain other party to me.
